New Year, New Start ?

Happy New Year to all the dear readers of my Blog.
I arrived back to Tripoli on January 1 (yesterday), after enjoying 10 nice days with my family in Vienna. Well, the last few days I was already reluctant to get back to Libya. Being away for 10 days seems like being away for half a year before the revolution - so many things change.
So which way will Libya go? Well, i was asked this question by a journalist today, and I am quite optimistic:
There are still shots being heard in town, but the military presence on the streets is very low.
The biggest difference I could see after my return is, that the government seems to bring the cash crisis under control: A clear sign of it is the disappearance of the money changers in Dahra. When asking at a shop, what the exchange rate for the Euro was, one trader told me "Go to the bank, they have enough now".
However, infrastructure is still in dire need of improvement - power cuts, internet down, etc.
So let´s hope for the best for 2012.
And yes, one more thing:
How do my regular, German speaking readers feel about the blog being written in English ?
I would love to hear some comments about that (if you prefer, also anonymous).

  6. Dear Mr. Bachmann, it is about time that you leave Libya. We do not need traitors like you who are best buddies with Abdullah Al Sanussi.

  7. I find your blog to be very useful to all people who have an interest in doing business in Libya. Given your experience in the country, this blog is extremely helpful and much needed as the country struggles to reconstruct and rebuild. With translation applications widely available, writing in either language should not be a problem.

  8. Dear Anonym (9:21):
I heard your accusation already through other channels, and I know who you are. So now, as we are both living in a free, open country, can you bring up proof for your accusations ?
If not, pls. stop the blackmailing.
FYI: I have never met, talked to or have contact to Mr.Sanussi... (as said, proof otherwise)
